10 Best Boss Battles In Metroid History

Metroid: Other M was criticised for... everything. Its non-sensical story, abysmal dialogue, repetitive gameplay, take your pick. Other M was so reviled, it's almost blasphemous to compliment the game.

Having said that, Other M has some genuinely great boss battles. Case in point, let's look at Goyagma. As the lava rises in the Crater Section, you need to climb up the volcano to avoid being melted to a crisp. This is pretty tricky since a molten spider-octopus called Goyagma keeps trying to hurl you into the lava.

Once you reach the summit, your superior informs you to change into your Varia suit to withstand the heat. The instant you do this, Goyagma hurls you into the air, scaring the hell out of the player. He will then begin attacking you by sweeping the area with his tentacles, throwing chunks of lava at you, and triggering magma geysers.

When the creature slams the surface, you can freeze its tentacles and run on them to reach Goyagma's body, blasting it to smithereens. Watching Samus surf and weave around this fiery foe is one of the most awesome parts of the game.

But just to be clear, Other M is still pretty rubbish. Give it a miss.
