And one of tensest experiences in the series is meeting the antagonist of Metroid Fusion; SA-X.

After Samus's suit was infected with the X parasite, her armour was surgically removed to save her life. However, the X in her armour grew and turned into an evil duplicate of Samus. She didn't just copy Samus' appearance but also her armour and weapons.

SA-X is so powerful, you cannot defeat her until you've upgraded yourself to the max. Upon the first few encounters with SA-X, you have to hide. If SA-X sees you, RUN! The sheer terror you experience as your doppelgänger closes in makes Fusion feel like a horror game.
