10 Best Castlevania Games
6. Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse
The third entry in the series, Dracula's Curse is still one of the best titles available in the franchise. This time, you find yourself playing as Trevor Belmont, an exile of the Belmont clan. In penance, he throws himself up against Dracula and his forces of evil in order to save the nation of Wallachia from his evil grasp. However, in a series first, he was not doing this alone.
Players could choose one of four characters to take on the forces of darkness. Trevor offered much of the classic gameplay fans had come to love; Sypha the mage granted powerful elemental spells, Grant Dynasty the pirate gave players a rare experience at the time as he was able to change direction mid-jump, and Alucard allowed players to shoot fireballs and transform into a bat.
After the rather cold response that Castlevania II: Simon's Quest had received from players and critics alight, the abandonment of the RPG elements that had been included in the previous iteration in favour of the core experience was well-received. The extra abilities the other characters injected fresh life into the game, and the addition of branching paths and multiple story endings made for an exciting experience.
