10 Best Castlevania Games
5. Castlevania: Dawn Of Sorrow
Taking charge of Soma Cruz in his second foray in Castlevania land, Cruz this time is tasked with putting a stop to an evil cult that wants to use his soul as fuel for their resurrection of the now-dead Vampire lord. Another day at the office for Castlevania, then.
The first entry on the DS felt like a large jump in quality from the GBA days; although the painterly Gothic feel had been shed for a more anime-led art style in an attempt to sell the franchise to younger players, the actual pixel art and music received a noticeable upgrade from the previous titles thanks to the new hardware. The gameplay loop was just as satisfying, and the benefit of having a permanent map available at any time on the lower screen was a massive benefit.
The only frustrations with this entry are pretty minor. This entry, perhaps to show off the DS's capabilities, included bizarre touch-screen sections of boss-fights, and it was also a much shorter adventure than some other titles.
Dawn of Sorrow was a great entry featuring characters with great depth that built upon the success of Aria of Sorrow, but was not the best outing Soma Cruz had as a protagonist.
