10 Best Directed Video Game Cutscenes Ever
5. Old Soldier - World Of Warcraft
The name Blizzard doesn't exactly elicit the excited response that it used to back in the companies heyday. The Warcraft IP is faring just as bad, with people calling for mass refunds of their 'Reforged' Warcraft 3, or complaining about just how much they hate Sylvanas these days. Yet one thing is undeniable about the company, they make damned fine cinematics.
It's no surprise then that at the Battle For Azeroth launch almost all of the excitement came from the Old Soldier cinematic. Following Varok Saurfang the scene expertly splices together flashbacks as Saurfang slowly starts to question his loyalty to the new Horde.
Each one is impactful and helps the audience to understand completely who Saurfang is and what he believes in. This coupled with a lovable troll that the internet affectionately nicknamed Zappy Boi made Battle for Azeroth seem like an expansion actually worth paying for. In hindsight, maybe that was a bit too optimistic.
With cinematics like this, one has to wonder. What the hell happened to the Warcraft movie? Why do they continue to hurt their player base? Come on Blizzard, this is proof that there's still good in you.
