10 Best Directed Video Game Cutscenes Ever
4. The Suicide Mission - Mass Effect 2
Mass Effect 2 is a reminder of better times. Times before the now infamous trilogy ending choice of Shepards favourite colour, and far before the still fresh mutant faces that inhabited the Andromeda galaxy.
Before all of that Mass Effect 2 ended with one of the most intense and climactic cut scenes that it could have ever hoped to achieve. With the human reaper hybrid dealt with and the collector base set to explode, Shepard and his team has to high tail it out of there as fast as they can.
The scene in question is intense, filled with powerful, hope inspiring music, and set against a backdrop of a classic Borg style villain monologue. Shepard is insignificant and he will be assimilated.
The directing is rapid fire and fits the mood perfectly. It cuts constantly between Shepard's sprinting escape, Collector soldiers charging after them, and Harbinger itself as the timer counts down.
The scene is such a perfect gratification of player accomplishment, that it just hurts even more that this isn't the final entry in the franchise.
Imagine if Mass Effect 3 had ended with the gusto and panache on display here.
