Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 does what any good sequel should, take the ideas set out by the original and improve upon them.

The 3D battle arena gameplay that was introduced in the first Budokai Tenkaichi is enhanced here as the game is smoother and feels substantially more enjoyable to play.

While some fans prefer the 2.5D gameplay of the Budokai series, the 3D presentation does give the Budokai Tenkaichi franchise the same scope that is seen in the anime and this sequels improvement in visuals over its predecessor showcases that.

Team battles were introduced in this game, giving players the ability to tag characters in and out. The addition of more characters in fights makes them more compelling and takes advantage of the game's large roster size.

Another mode in the game is Ultimate Battle Z it is similar to Mortal Kombat's tower mode where players ascend a pillar defeating every opponent one after another.

Although it's not as good as its sequel's Mission 100 mode, Ultimate Battle Z is still a strong inclusion.
