Well, with Until Dawn, they kinda did. Though the gameplay in Until Dawn may not amount to much more than a few quick time events and some choose-your-own-adventure moments, the story, environment and characters are all ripped straight from the 80s horror playbook. This game was clearly made by designers and developers with a love and understanding for what makes that particular genre of films so fondly remembered.
