The first The Last of Us was well known for smashing you right in the face with emotional moments, so we all expected Part 2 to do exactly the same.

What we didn't expect was everyone's favourite gruff and loveable father figure Joel to be brutally murdered within the first couple of hours!

We knew from the trailers and released info before release that we were going to be taking control of Ellie for this game rather than Joel as we did in the first title. Most of us probably expected Joel to be along for quite a lot of the ride too, but instead Naughty Dog used his death as a catalyst for the whole of The Last of Us: Part 2's story of revenge.

There was another hugely unexpected secret that we didn't realise until we got our hands on this game too: playing as Abby. The game forced us to play as Joel's killer for a significant portion of the story, making us realise what seemed like such an awful murder wasn't quite as black-and-white as we thought. It turns out that Joel was the man responsible for murdering Abby's father in the original game, and she wants revenge.

Abby was very hard to love though after we'd seen Joel bloody and beaten on the floor, his head impaled with a golf club. It's one of the most shocking moments in gaming history.
