10 Best Gaming Secrets Kept Before Release

2. Aerith Dies - Final Fantasy VII

Imagine you were playing Final Fantasy VII for the first time, and knew nothing about it apart from it looked brilliant.

You spend hours getting to know your new characters, falling in love with them and their blocky Dorito bodies, and invest time into levelling them all up. Aerith seems like the healer of the group, so you spend plenty of time levelling her up ready for the trials still to come.

Then, it happens. In an unprecedent shocker of a move, Square Enix brutally murders Aerith. The delightful flower girl from the slums is slain by Sephiroth (well, technically, it's Jenova, but it looks like Sephiroth) and the hearts of millions of gamers were shattered into a million pieces as their jaws collectively hit the floor.

Back in the day, nobody had a clue this was about to happen. It came as such a huge shock, rumours spread everywhere of ways to revive her, each more outlandish than the last. But alas, she was dead.

The fate of Aerith in FF7 Remake, with how the narrative of Remake diverges from the original, is completely up in the air at this point. She kinda has to die for the storyline...but we kinda don't want her to as Aerith is an absolute treasure and must be protected at all costs.
