3. Gyarados

Talk about starting from the bottom.

When you consider that Gyarados, one of the strongest Pokémon in the first generation, started from a Magikarp, his position on this list makes a lot of sense. There's a good reason why he's one of the hardest Pokémon to get- you have to have dedication to Magikarp first. Gyarados' appearance in the anime was also pretty special, with Misty's connection to her Pokémon actually being quite special for the character.

Of course, the best feature about Gyarados is how strong he is. Being both a Water type and a Flying type means that Gyarados is extremely hard to beat, which is only matched by the fact that all of his attacks hit like a ten-ton truck.
