10 Best Indie Video Games Of The Month (April, 2021)
9. ROUNDS
Indie developers have graced the Steam store with exceptional fighting party games this month. The addictively hilarious Bämeräng is a sleek, pixel-styled PvP where players dart across a tall stone pillar while hurling boomerangs at each other. Yet the indie party brawler that's had me screaming at the top of my lungs as I got blasted into pixelated dust is the tongue-in-cheek gunslinging ROUNDS.
The fighter cleverly meshes rogue genre qualities onto the action, as losing players constantly tip the balance in their favour by unlocking upgrades with each loss. It's a neat little game mechanic that doubles as an instigator of more silly and cartoony violence.
The controls and animations are butter-smooth, and the wide array of power-ups and customisation keeps the gameplay fresh and fluid. The destructible maps only add to the absolute chaos as players freeze, incinerate, and straight-up explode their opposition.
ROUNDS is in desperate need of a four-player mode but has the potential to sit with the greats as another party brawler to break friendships with.
