10 Best Lovecraftian Enemies In Video Games
5. Father Dagon - Call Of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth
It’s hard to argue that this guy can’t be on this list considering that he was ripped directly from H.P. Lovecraft’s story of the same name. While the name of the game suggests that a different tentacular horror will be playing top billing, Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of Earth is one of the best games to ever feature Lovecraft’s work. Genuinely creepy and engaging if you can get into it, the game features one of the most popular Lovecraftian monsters. Dagon.
In the game, he plays the role of the main antagonist and is the ruler of the Deep Ones, a race of aquatic fish people in service of Dagon and Mother Hydra. While there is a lot to be said about the character of Dagon, the game really does nothing all to special that H.P. Lovecraft’s stories didn’t.
What makes him so memorable is the appearance he makes while aboard the USS Urania. Attacking the boat from the water, Dagon is absolutely terrifying and preys perfectly on the fear of deep waters, an idea that H.P Lovecraft used incredibly well.
The sequence captures the fear and panic brilliantly and seals the games infinitely memorable. From the aesthetic to the elder being to the iconic set piece, it’s is the perfect representation of one our favourite Lovecraftian horrors.
