10 Best Modern Video Game Soundtracks

2. The Last Of Us (Gustavo Santaolalla)

The world is overrun by fungi-zombies (patient zero was probably one of those nasty pizzas), and nature has taken back the cities. In these dire times, what little relief you can get is more than welcome. In comes the acoustic guitars to deliver a few much needed moments of joy sprinkled through TLoU's campaign.

The beautifully sad soundtrack of The Last of Us perfectly accompanies that search for glimmers of hope while you're trying to survive with Joel and Ellie. The game uses its music to perfectly communicate how the characters feel, sometimes heavy and sad and at other times more playful in an attempt to forget about the troubles they have to deal with. Let's hope that The Last of Us 2 is able to give us music as emotional as the first part did.

Joost van den Heuvel hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
