4. Galen Marek - Starkiller

Following some pretty lacklustre Star Wars games after Star Wars Battlefront 2, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed arrived with great promise and an exciting new angle. Ultimately the game failed to live up to the early hype thanks to some poor execution and a waste of good gameplay mechanics, but the game's protagonist did come out of it pretty well.

Galen Marek starts the game as Darth Vader's secret apprentice in events taking place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Vader tasks his apprentice - dubbed Starkiller - with seeking out the last few Jedi in the galaxy and destroying them. Early on he obeys the word of his master, but eventually sense prevails and he starts to question the Dark Side of the Force.

Despite a fairly cliched 'bad guy turns good' storyline, Marek does manage to shine here thanks to some well-delivered dialogue and excellent writing. Suddenly the life of a powerful young Sith apprentice is turned upside down as he finally starts to question everything he's ever known. His rise to the Light Side is powerful, and his ultimate betrayal and defeat is quite devastating.
