2. Bastila Shan

Despite falling a little too easily into damsel in distress territory as the events of Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic drew to a close, Bastila Shan was a great companion for the hero and a very important step forward for Star Wars' female characters as a whole.

Bastila spends much of the game's story as the most powerful hero character, aiding players as they seek to discover more about the Force and their connection with it. She carries herself with the kind of poise and control that Masters like Qui-Gon Jinn managed in the movies and went a long way toward opening up stronger female roles in the Star Wars lore.

It is disappointing, of course, that she's pushed into "love interest" territory as players reach the game's final stages, but even in that form she does maintain enough of a positive influence over the story to not be solely defined by such a role.
