With Ground type Pokémon often having high defence and Ground type moves always packing a hefty punch, a Ground type Pokémon is an essential inclusion on any team. Of all the choices in Generation 1, Diglett and Dugtrio are the best to include on your team.

Onix, the Geodude line and the Rhyhorn line all have a dual typing of Ground and Rock, giving them four times weaknesses to both the Water type and the Grass type.
