10 Best PS2 Games Of All Time
8. WWE SmackDown Vs. Raw
Some of you may be old enough to remember when wrestling games were actually good; before the days of 2K20’s horrific glitches and before pin-falls could occur within moments of a match starting as a result of a convoluted QTE system. Those were the days.
In a similar vein to SSX, the WWE SmackDown series took an arcade-style approach to gameplay, which was massively popular at the time. Through simple enough button combinations, you could pull off some of wrestling’s most iconic moves and felt like a title-holding champion in the process.
2004’s WWE SmackDown Vs Raw was the pinnacle of this series, making some massive improvements in the realms of gameplay, story and customisation.
Players could now pick between being clean or dirty fighters, choose a WWE franchise to represent, and take part in an original story which saw wrestlers from both SmackDown and Raw go head-to-head in the ring, all with their own created character.
SmackDown Vs Raw spawned not one, but six sequels before the games moved to numbered entries in 2011. These were the glory days for wrestling games and sadly, we haven’t seen anything as good since.
