10 Best Resident Evil Spin-Off Video Games
1. Resident Evil: Revelations 2
A budget title that would be released in a series of four weekly episodes, Capcom hoped to establish the Revelations sub-series as a run of games taking place between the main numbered titles that would feature a playstyle focused more on horror.
Revelations 2 takes everything that worked in the first game and makes it better. The story is less convoluted and more wrapped into the franchise’s main story; even going so far as to revive the “Wesker Children” plot thread that had been left dangling in a file in Resident Evil 5.
Claire and Barry’s campaigns take part six months apart and this is used effectively. The decision to kill or spare a certain enemy in Claire’s campaign affects events in Barry’s campaign and each part raises questions which are then answered in the other characters campaign.
Some corners are obviously cut to enable cheaper production costs, such as lifting animations from existing titles but Revelations 2 manages to provide one of the better stories in the franchise as well as some of the first genuinely effective scares seen in the franchise in years. To pass over this game would be a huge mistake.
