10 Best RPG Quests That DON'T Involve Combat
2. “Sins of the Father” (Mass Effect 2)
The Mass Effect series is as full of compelling characters as a Ubisoft map is with markers. One that many fans hold a distinct soft spot for is the Drell assassin, Thane Krios. As such, it comes as little surprise that his loyalty mission is a phenomenal piece of side content, even without combat.
While Thane is an assassin, he's still a compassionate man aware of his flaws and mistakes, which is why he's desperate to ensure his estranged son doesn't walk the same path. This comes to a head in the "Sins of the Father" side quest, which sees Shepard and Thane journey to the Citadel to stop Thane's son, Kolyat, from becoming a killer.
Throughout the mission, you'll learn that Koylet has been paid to assassinate a political figure. Following a detective-style interrogation and stealth tailing segment, you'll arrive on the scene just in time to prevent the kill, with Thane and his son reuniting in a touching scene.
The mission develops Thane's backstory incredibly well and strengthens his connection to Shepard. The fact you don't go into combat also feels fitting, given the mission's themes.
