Seeing a pattern yet? Taking the title of third best selling game on the Xbox 360 is the first entry in the Treyarch developed, Black Ops division of Call of Duty games. With a rough estimate of 14.08 million units, Call Of Duty: Black Ops boasts a better sale rate than its sequel and most of the Modern Warfare titles. Within 24 hours of release, Black Ops had sold 5.6 million units in the U.S and UK market, which at the time established a new record for largest entertainment launch. By December 22, 2010, Black Ops had exceeded $1 billion just a month and a half after its release. While the initial sales were strong, Black Ops continued to dominate the sales charts throughout the winter and into early 2011, remaining on the top-seller list until February 2011. Call of Duty: Black Ops remains a good example of how a variation on the main entries in a series can still harbor success, feeding off the acclaim of the Modern Warfare titles, but offering something different in both game-play, setting and style.
