10 Best Set Pieces In Uncharted History

2. The Hanging Train (Uncharted 2)

The term 'cliffhanger' has never been more apt than in the opening chapter of Uncharted 2. Starting with Nate hanging from the remains of an train was a fantastic way of creating tension, and a move that cemented set pieces as a staple of the Uncharted series.

Really, the whole of the train section in Uncharted 2 is worthy of its own entry. The run n' gun gameplay of Uncharted being done on the move is as fantastic as it sounds, creating a visual marvel and including a huge level of interaction on the player’s part. Although the scenario is action packed and cinematic, it still plays like the rest of the game and that’s exactly what a set piece should be. If only The Lost Legacy hadn’t done this bit so much better, then this entry would probably be number one.

The true highlight of the train chapter is in the introduction to the game, and then later when it appears again in present time. Slowly shifting Nate up the collapsing train may not be the most gripping scene gameplay-wise, but it creates a huge amount of tension and mystery right out the gate.

Simply put, Uncharted 2’s cliffhanger scene was easily one of the most memorable sequences in the whole series. At least, until the next entry…
