10 Best Shotguns In Gaming History - Ranked

8. Swordsplosion (Borderlands 2)

Resident Evil 4 shotgun kick
Gearbox Software

There are literally hundreds of shotguns in Borderlands 2 - too many to choose from and maintain any kind of sanity.

Every single one has its ups and downs; some advantage or disadvantage compared to the rest, but at the end of the day, there is only one shotgun personally endorsed by the the great Torgue High-Five Flexington:

The Swordsplosion!

What does it do? What do you think it does, dummy? It shoots swords that explode! True this makes it arguable as to whether or not it's a true shotgun, but the game labels it a shotgun so who am I to argue?

The main benefits of this gun are obvious, as this gun and its many variants are fantastic DPS dealers and can handle pretty much any normal enemy you come across fairly quickly. Even quicker if you get a really good variant on it.

But the downside is that, like any other explosive based weapon, you can end up hurting yourself very easily. Especially since several versions of the swordsplosion feature "child swords", smaller swords that break off from the one you fire and take a bit longer to go off once they hit the ground.

But then, it wouldn't be a Torgue corporation weapon if it didn't take explosions way too far.
