10 Best Stories That ONLY Work As Video Games

2. The Void

Mass Effect 2
Ice-Pick Lodge

From the biggest sci-fi movie to the most intimate romance book, the aim of any story is to help you escape what you know. When it comes to transporting you somewhere truly unfamiliar, few do it better than this one.

In this game, you play as a lost soul who has woken up in the mysterious Void, a purgatory-like existence where lifeforce is made up of colour. You collect colour to grow stronger and feed The Sisters, the oppressed and famished inhabitants of this space. However, soon you must venture forth and challenge their oppressors, The Brothers, and ascend from these depths.

As you can probably tell, this is a very encompassing experience where you'll feel like you're on a whole different plane of existence. The art design, the gameplay, and The Brothers' designs almost make you feel like you're in a lucid dream.

Plus, there's no big guiding hand in this game, as you are left to your own devices regarding what to do and who to follow. It's the kind of story that works because you, the player, are the life force behind it; without you, a story like this simply wouldn't exist.
