10 Best Super Nintendo Soundtracks

2. Final Fantasy VI (Final Fantasy III in North America) One of the most epic games for the SNES, it was only fitting that FFVI should feature one of the most epic and grandiose soundtracks. Composer Nobuo Uematsu held nothing back, striving for sheer glory on these pieces. Not only did he write wonderful theme songs for every character, perfectly capturing their traits and persona in each song, he also wrote all the background music, battle songs, and, perhaps the only time ever in video game history, an entire opera aria. While the songs lean heavily on orchestral pieces, led by string and horn sections, many genres are represented throughout FFVI. Songs vary from ambient, to folky, even incorporating very upbeat rock tracks. Uematsu does a marvellous job using atmospherics to create a sense of desolation and loss. An absolutely marvellous game, FFVI features a truly beautiful soundtrack. Very few games can go from foot-stomping pieces, to tear-jerking ballads as well as this. A very ambitious effort, Uematsu succeeds in composing a true masterpiece.
