10 Best Super Nintendo Soundtracks

1. Chrono Trigger Considered by many to be one of the single greatest games of the 16 bit era, Chrono Trigger's soundtrack was miles above the rest of the pack. Composed largely by Yasunori Mitsuda, with some additional input from Nobuo Uematsu and Noriko Matsueda, Chrono Trigger features some of the most beautiful music to ever grace any video game. Mitsuda does an outstanding job of capturing the various time periods visited throughout the game, from the joyful bounciness of the Millenial Fair, to the epic, orchestral songs of the medieval time period, to the robotic, technologic beats of the future. The songs vary in feel, bouncy and lighthearted in the beginning, before turning darker and more epic. Mitsuda's songs are very inspiring, nudging the heroes on in their journey. While working on the soundtrack Mitsuda put in many long hours, often sleeping in his studio, and has attributed certain songs to inspiring dreams. Instrumentation varies greatly, from more classical instruments, such as strings, horn and pianos, to more edgy futuristic sounds, such as electronic drums and synthesizers. Mitsuda has been quoted as saying he "wanted to create music that wouldn't fit into any established genre, music of an imaginary world." It's fair to say he did an outstanding job accomplishing that feat. Chrono Trigger's soundtrack will forever hold its place in time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqZaFDA7PXY
