10 Best Synthwave Video Games You Need To Play

6. Hotline Miami 1 & 2

Another pair that feature an eclectic mix of synthwave/electronica artists, the [sadly only a pair of] Hotline Miami games are a slightly different breed to Furi.

Hotline Miami games are somewhat a conundrum: you're encouraged to enact fast-paced, hyper-violent combat, but you're also expected to be thinking two steps ahead.

For you see, you're not a damage sponge, so charging recklessly into a room will often see you pasted across the floor. Or, it may not, if you've whacked everyone before they've had time to think, earning you more points for chaotic combos.

Coming straight at you like Miami Vice on crack, Hotline Miami was a brutal ballet of bullets and baseball bats, bolstered by a thumping soundtrack featuring the likes of Pertubator, MOON, Scattle, El Tigre, Magic Sword and more. Again, like Furi, no two levels featured the same track, so each slice of violent pie had its own accompanying earworm.

Whilst the sequel doubled down on scale and lost some of the intensity with bigger levels, its soundtrack was just as rich, both well worth exploring.
