10 Best Synthwave Video Games You Need To Play

5. Nex Machina

Nex Machina has a decent pedigree behind it, from the team that created lightshow shooter Resogun, and Eugene Jarvis, one of the men behind retro Running Man-esque top down shooter, Smash TV*.

Half bullet-hell shooter, half twin-stick platformer, Nex Machina is the Spinal Tap of its kind: everything turned up to eleven. From the onscreen antics, the waves of enemies, the lightning fast reflexes needed to master them all, right down to the soundtrack.

Composed by a trio of Tuomas Nikkinen, Harry Krueger and Ari Pulkkinen, Nex Machina is a relentless synth assault on the eardrums. Inspired by the tech noir stylings of Carpenter Brut and Perturbator, it's upbeat and encouraging in such a frenetic game.

It's fast, frantic, and everything happening at once on screen will keep you on the pulse. Aided by the tunes to keep you glued to your seat, it's definitely a game any arcade fan should snap up, without the fear of losing coin after coin on it.

*Isn't it about time we had a Smash TV remake?!
