10 Best Utility Spells In Dungeons & Dragons
4. Silent Image
This first-level illusion spell, that can be cast by Bards, Sorcerers, and Wizards, has a baffling number of options. While as stated in the name of the spell, the image you produce is silent (It also can’t produce an odour or other sensory effects.) There aren’t many other limits to this spell. As long as it isn’t bigger than 15-foot and no creature tries to interact with it, your good to go.
After it has been cast, you can use your action to move the image. It will also appear natural while moving. For instance, if you produced a human and moved the image, the person would walk to that location. With that sort of power, a range of 60-feet and a 10-minute time limit, there isn’t much you can’t impersonate.
Maybe your party is being followed but you can’t shake the lead, duck around a corner and replicate yourself as a silent image, walk the image into the nearest bar and watch your tail follow. Have you got no cover and you’re being shot by arrows, maybe produce some mobile cover, use silent image to make it look like you wheel a cart out, it won’t stop the arrows but the enemies don’t know that?
While creatures can make an intelligence investigation check to see through this image. Odds are by the time they’ve done this you have moved on to phase two of your plans, you’ve got the break you need.
