10 Best Vampire Video Games EVER

7. Vampyr

Vampyr game

Vampyr is a flawed, dark action adventure that could, mechanically speaking, be compared to a watered down version of Bloodborne. The Weapon-based combat augmented by blood-fueled powers. The grimy, decaying setting. The repetitive minions that occasionally lead to large boss battles all have a Souls-feel to it, even if its difficulty is substantially easier.

Set in early 20th-century London, Dr. Johnathan Reid is bitten and returns a vampire, thrust into a world of politics and bloodlust, as he finds himself the target of religious zealots, enemy vampires, and a lower class of the undead known as Skals. With the outbreak of frenzied vampirism being mistaken as a plague of Spanish Flu, Dr. Reid must learn to balance his own dark lusts with his desire to save the city from collapse.

Vampyr has an interesting mechanic in which blood grants experience points at the cost of humanity. As such, regions of the city can collapse into chaos if too many individuals are devoured, cutting the player off from various quests. As such, players must make the choice between advancing through nefarious means or taking the harder path by sparing innocents.

Honestly, Vampyr has some very fun ideas, none of which truly reach their potential. The morality system trails off about 2/3 of the way through the game, and the combat is rudimentary. Still, it shouldn't be overlooked for its engaging story and compelling protagonist, even if the romance subplot is terribly shoe-horned.
