An absolute gem that was overlooked on Xbox and, less spectacularly, GameCube, Hunter: The Reckoning has nothing if not ambition. Set among the deep lore of the World of Darkness, Hunter: The Reckoning sees the four titular Hunters as they enter into the Ashcroft Penitentiary, a prison system that has been used as a feeding ground for the undead for years.

Each of the four characters has a unique playstyle. Kassandra the Martyr is able to move attack with incredible speed, while Esteban the Judge focuses on heavy magic attacks known as Edges. Perhaps most revolutionary for the time was that the game could be played in 4-player multiplayer, a rarity for this genre in 2002.

The game's atmosphere is excellent, with an ominous setting that explores a variety of locations. And while it's a perfectly satisfactory single-player game, it shines best if you can wrangle up a few friends and play as it was meant to be: with a crack team of vampire hunters waging war against an endless army of supernatural threats.

If you're interested in throwing down, the game is backwards compatible on Xbox One, waiting for you to to save the world from the forces of darkness.
