5. Soul Of Cinder - Dark Souls III

I feel like I had to include this outstanding final boss fight from the vanilla Dark Souls III experience for two reasons. One, it's a brilliant fight that will put everything you've learned to the test, and two, because up until the expansions came and gave yet more closure to the narrative, this was the final moment of a trilogy years in the making and so beloved by fans.

This was literally a fight against the dying light, a statement that would have made Dylan Thomas proud as we did not go gently into death but fought against this living embodiment of the final flame tooth and nail. Witnessing the creature morph its fighting style to reflect others who had continued the linking of the flames, and seeing Lord Gwyn's moveset as part of this was both a brilliant reference to the greater narrative, but also a moment of sad reflection.

Here we are, at the end of things, facing down a shallow mirror of a former King. It's beautiful, haunting, and utterly memorable.
