10 Best Video Game Boss Speeches

5. Gears Of War 2 - "Life Is Cruel"

It's hard to imagine a game about big, grunty soldiers with chainsaw bayonets falling under the "Best Monologue" category. Yet sometimes, gamers can be surprised.

Not too surprised, mind, as this particular speech doesn't come from Delta Squad. Instead, it comes from recurring Locust villain, Queen Myrrah. Prior to her arrival, the Locust were depicted as savages (with the tactical sense to also hide behind cover), with the occasional tactician like General Raam leading things.

Queen Myrrah is different though. A human/Locust hybrid (in brief, it's more involved than that), Myrrah possesses a knowledge and pain that adds gravity to events in Gears of War.

Setting the scene for the first sequel, Myrrah's opening speech is that invokes some questions about the futility and repetition of what humans are really doing for survival. Or whether it's all for naught, and that these endeavors are pointless.

Who would've thought Gears of War could engage in some COGnitive thinking?
