6. No Easter Eggs - Katana Zero

Call of duty modern warfare predator
Devolver Digital

Oh Devolver Digital, you're so edgy. Or meta, or woke, whatever the kids are calling it now. But of course, they know this, that's why we love them.

Whether it be the meta-commentary of senseless killing in Hotline Miami, or the releasing of terrible/niche games like Metal Wolf Chaos, they're usually on the ball.

Katana Zero, the Switch and PC 2D hack and slasher, is no different with this fourth wall breaking not-really-an-Easter egg. Make sense? No? Alright, bear with me.

Once you reach the Studio 51 levels, you'll come across a robot who wants to destroy mankind (don't they all?), who you can destroy if you're feeling that way inclined. Instead, let him jabber on, and you'll get the above message in binary code. Could it be some secret, maybe a passcode for something? Nope, just this simple message when translated:

SORRY = NO EASTER EGGS

Which, when you think about it... is an Easter egg. But the game's telling you it isn't... as an Easter egg. Urgh, my brain.

It's like an anti-Turing test. Well played, Devolver.
