10 Best Video Game Openings NO ONE Talks About

3. Fallout: New Vegas

While the Bethesda Fallout games take forever to get going, New Vegas starts off with you getting shot in the head.

After which, you are immediately rushed out the door by a doctor who somehow managed to undo "getting shot in the HEAD" without much issue.

Well whatever, with that out of the way, you - Courier 6 - find yourself in the town of Goodsprings, a sort of microcosm of the entire game ahead of you. Which hilariously, you can just ignore and wander out of town like the single-minded a-hole you are.

Stick around, however, and you'll find an example of everything that makes this game great. Detailed world-building, great onboarding to other side quests (the player getting to hear about the horrific hellbeasts awaiting them should they take the direct path to Vegas, as well as the trouble with the Powder Gangers, who will appear again later) and quests that snowball into way more complex affairs than they first appear.
