10 Best Video Game Sequels That NEVER Happened

9. Castlevania: Resurrection

Given the Castlevania series altogether has almost forty separate games comprising it, it's fair that you might not notice individual games slipping through the gaps.

And Castlevania: Resurrection - the initially planned sixteenth instalment of the series - very much appears to be a case of this. It's an especially unusual case of cancellation, as work ceasing on it definitely wasn't down to internal issues or the studio working on the game closing, as the game was being developed by Konami.

Fans have speculated that the ceased development of Resurrection was down to Konami's skepticism about the Sega Dreamcast, which is supported by the fact that the game was cancelled the same day that the Playstation 2 was announced.

While it might sound wild to quit creating a game because of another impending console, the Dreamcast's sales did dwindle in comparison to the Playstation 2, so - from an entirely financial perspective - if this was the reason Konami quit making the game, it was a successful choice.

However, from a creative perspective, it does feel like a tragic waste, as we'll always wonder what a fully finished version of this game looked like.
