10 Best Video Game Soundtracks Of 2016
7. Overwatch
Overwatch is a game desperate to suck players in. In order for it to survive, it needs its playerbase to be as enormous as possible, populating the game's various modes like Quick Play, Competitive and Brawl.
In this way, everything about Overwatch is designed to be appealing and addictive: unlocking skins and emotes via loot boxes, climbing levels and upgrading your player portrait, gaining competitive points for golden weapons... it goes on and on.
The music is also addictive, but in a much more subtle way. It's the kind of music largely based on core themes: the title music, the victory music, the music which plays before you enter a certain level. Yet every track is strong enough that it perfectly punctuates those moments: when the Numbani music plays, it really feels like you're heading to Africa, and when the victory music plays, it really feels like a stunning triumph.
Overwatch's soundtrack is composed by Derek Duke and Neal Acree, the latter of whom is a Blizzard stalwart, responsible for the music from games like World Of Warcraft and Starcraft.
