Marvel: Ultimate Alliance is an action role-playing game released in 2006 on all the major consoles of the day. It was developed using many of the same mechanics employed in the X-Men Legends franchise, ensuring fans of those games would find some familiarity in the new series.

There are 36 playable characters in the game, which wasn't a bad roster for a 2006 title. Players unlocked various superheroes as they played through the story and accomplished specific tasks. Once unlocked, the new character could be added to a team of four. Gameplay centered around seamlessly switching from one character to the other.

This made it possible to accomplish various tasks by switching to a flying hero or blowing something up with a hero who controls fire. It made the gameplay dynamic, and because the story was so well-written, it's incredibly engrossing.

Additionally, the game is filled with trivia, additional artwork, and more, which unlock non-story-related missions specific to certain characters. There are multiple endings, which are dependent on the various side-missions players run through as they play the game. A sequel was released in 2009, and another came out for the Nintendo Switch in 2019.
