10 Best Video Games Levels Of 2018 (So Far)
4. Blades Of Chaos (God Of War)
Though God of War was pitched as being something of a soft reboot for the franchise, its biggest strengths come from the way it wrangles with the sins of its past, acting as a self-reflective journey for a more mature Kratos. Teased throughout the title, the deity attempts to suppress his prior deeds, but eventually needs to embrace them in order to literally go to hell to save his dying son, venturing back to his family home to unearth his former signature weapons, the Blades of Chaos.
While many fans expected to see the weapon return in some form during the title, nobody really expected the emotional weight that would come from retrieving them. Not only does the mission work on a meta level, as players want to be reunited with the iconic items, but the way it's framed narratively, with the score swelling and Kratos no longer hiding from who he once was, is simply epic.
Also, it helps that the first battle with the weapons equipped is blistering, giving you a devastating reach you previously lacked.
