10 Best Video Games Levels Of 2018 (So Far)
3. TV Station Infiltration (Detroit: Become Human)
While the jury is out on whether Detroit: Become Human is David Cage and Quantic Dream's best game (for my money it is), it's certainly the studio's most inventive when it comes to pure gameplay. Though the majority of chapters are still centred around dialogue, making choices and exploring small areas, there are a couple major action set-pieces that work perfectly with the player-driven decisions the rest of the game is built around.
The very best is a chapter around the halfway mark that sees Marcus and his band of android rebels infiltrate The Stratford Tower, in an attempt to broadcast a message of resistance on national television. The multi-stage quest is brilliantly structured, moving from a stealthy infiltration opening to scaling the side of the tower to making a daring escape on the roof.
While that in itself is great, it's the way each individual player finds their own way through the mission that's so affecting. The plan can go to hell at any moment, and casualties can happen, with the game presenting some of its best moral choices during this stretch. The dramatic purpose of the stage adds an extra element as well, ensuring that you're engaged for more than just the action.
