4. Mega Man Universe

Production of Mega Man Universe first began in March 2010, however it was until April that year that rumblings of a new title began when Capcom registered the trademark. A teaser trailer was later leaked online which featured Mega Man, Ryu from Street Fighter and Arthur from Ghosts 'n Goblins, showing that Universe was intending to bring the series back to its 2D side-scrolling roots.

Taking inspiration from Mega Man 2 in terms of its story and presentation, Universe would have been Super Mario Maker, five years before it had been released. Players would have been able to build their own levels, customise existing ones with a variety of different platforming tools. They would have also been able to customise different versions of Mega Man and share their created levels online with other players.

However, following this initial teaser, communication surrounding the game dried up leading to some believing it had been canned. Capcom initially denied this, but eventually announced its cancellation in March 2011 due to 'various circumstances'.

No official reason has ever been given for the game's cancellation, but some have wondered whether the departure of Mega Man artist Keiji Inafune a few months before might have triggered a reassessment at Capcom.

Horror fan, gamer, all round subpar content creator. Strongly believes that Toad is the real hero of the Mario universe, and that we've probably had enough Batman origin stories.
