8. Roller Coaster Tycoon
Sometimes the simplest games are the best.
Roller Coaster Tycoon has seen many entries into the franchise over the years, but the main series games are where you'll probably get the most playtime. While Roller Coaster Tycoon World wasn't very well received critically, previous installments are much better representations of the game. While the premise may sound quite straight forward, designing your perfect theme park is no easy task.
It's a game series that you find yourself sinking hours upon hours into just designing the layout of your park, before you realise you've had an even greater idea so you start again. Just tinkering with the rides and customising them to create your idea of the perfect theme park is such an addictive gameplay loop. There's a reason there have been a bunch of clones made since.
Or you could just go mad and design roller coasters that are doomed to fail from the start. But that probably isn't going to be great for your theme park's reputation. But even still the game gives you the freedom to have fun with the mechanics however you want.
