10 Best Western RPGs Of The Noughties
7. Fable
With the recent announcement of a new Fable, there is no better time to talk about the game that started it all. This game sees you start as nothing more than a peasant boy, but one that is destined for greatness. As you fight your way through the world discovering its secrets and defeating villains you will learn more about your past and your family.
A lot of the fun in this game comes from the moral choices you must make. Most of these choices are very black and white: examples include either saving merchants or robbing them of everything. The game allows you to create a character that lies anywhere on the moral spectrum. You can be a mighty and brave hero, or you can be a despicable monster. It really doesn’t mind what you pick - though sometimes it seems to encourage you to be the villain.
While there was justified criticism leveled at creator Peter Molyneux for overestimating Fable's potential impact, what we got was a fun and interesting RPG that many fans fell in love with. There may have been some bumps in the road for Fable, but hopefully there is a bright future ahead for the franchise.
