Wii U is proving to be quite the haven for fans of the humble 2D platformer. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze doesn't do anything particularly revolutionary for the genre, but it's still a hell of a lot of fun. Developed by Retro Studios, Tropical Freeze shrugs off GamePad usage in favour of providing a traditional, hard-as-nails platforming experience that will really put player's skills through their paces. Getting 100% completion in this game is like playing Dark Souls while blindfolded with hooks for hands. It really is that difficult. Tropical Freeze marks veteran composer David Wise's return to the series, much to the joy of long-time fans. His wonderfully catchy, melodic and infectious jazzy soundtrack is just as good as his previous work in the Donkey Kong Country games on the SNES. The game is fan service of the highest caliber, and that's not a bad thing at all.
