10 Best Zombie Video Games Of The Decade (So Far)
3. Dying Light
Building upon the solid-if-uninspired foundation of the original Dead Island, developers at Techland spent the years leading up to Dying Light trying to perfect their first-person zombie formula.
Deciding that parkour was the best way for their game to stick out from the horde of other undead shooters that had come before it, the game put as much of a focus on movement and exploration as it did whacking zombies with sledgehammers.
Likewise a day/night cycle kept things interesting, ensuring that players were always on their toes. With the map changing completely at night time, home to deadlier enemies that you couldn't reliably attack one on one, it meant that you had to constantly have your wits about you if you didn't want to lose all of the progress you had made during the day.
It was a surprisingly great launch from Techland and a huge improvement over their previous effort, establishing the studio as one to watch going forward.
