10 Better Games That Were Secretly Hidden In Video Games
3. Mercenaries - Resident Evil 5
Depending on who you ask, Resident Evil 5 is either a load of old bobbins compared to the brilliance of the groundbreaking fourth game, or a good-but-not-great slice of action schlock.
But most everyone can agree that the best part of the entire experience is the Mercenaries mini-game, right? Mercenaries, in which players attempt to kill as many enemies as possible within a set time limit inside of a closed arena, was first introduced in Resident Evil 3.
It can be unlocked in Resident Evil 5 by beating the game once, and offers up an infinitely more enjoyable and intense experience than the rather underwhelming - if certainly not bad - main campaign.
Resident Evil 5 crucially added local and co-op multiplayer to Mercenaries, complete with online leaderboards, while the DLC version, Mercenaries Reunion, remixed the gameplay while adding Rebecca Chambers and Barry Burton to the roster.
And the mode remains a firm fan favourite well over a decade later - action-packed yet in a way that's tense and requires the player to actually pay attention to what they're doing.
Resident Evil 5's actual campaign pales considerably in comparison, enough that it's a shame Mercenaries was gated behind it.
