The GTA series has been home to one of the most vibrant and active modding communities on the internet for years now, giving players the pleasure of being able to make some crazy alterations and additions to both the fourth and fifth game in the series.

The popularity of the GTA modding scene was particularly thanks to Open IV, an accessible modding tool for the games that became hugely popular within the community. But after years of operating fairly and ensuring that the mods didn't break any of the terms and conditions tied to the game's software, the people behind the site were hit with a cease and desist order that threatened legal action if they didn't remove their tools and resources.

Even though they tolerated it until now - and even promoted it themselves on multiple occasions - Take-Two decided that modding was illegal and unethical - probably because they were worried that it would somehow stop people from buying endless shark cards in GTA Online.

Take-Two have since relented and came to a compromise on the situation, but the way they went about it, seemingly deciding out the blue that mods were wrong while shunting a community that had shown them nothing but admiration over the years, won't do them any favours in the future.
