10 Biggest High-Profile Video Game Failures Of 2016
3. Everything About No Man's Sky
There are some games that will forever live on in infamy as What Not To Do. For example, in No Man's Sky's case:
1. Don't lie to your potential consumers about what is and isn't in your game, every step of the way pre-release.
2. Don't then go radio silent for four solid months after launch, forgoing interviews or any words of reassurance to those who'd spent their money regardless.
3. Don't make the ending of the game a scene of it starting over, adding insult to injury for those that might have stuck with the 'story' for the 30+ hours it took to complete. (Seriously, you click on the 'centre of the galaxy' and the game puts you back on another starting planet. That's IT.)
Taken in small doses and for what it was, No Man's Sky remains a pretty cool achievement in sheer game design. But combined with the broken way everything was presented pre and post-launch, there was just no way Hello Games' creation was going to leave a lasting positive impression.
