Any long-term gamer who ever wanted to write a novel or a script, make a film or a home-recorded album, will probably almost rue the day they got hooked on the virtual heroin that is gaming. Procrastination is the natural enemy of the creative. Unfortunately, gaming is procrastination's live-in lover.

This is a lie that creative gamers tell themselves on a weekly basis. Upon waking on his or her day off (bleary eyed from last night's late night gaming sesh no doubt) the gamer turns his current game of choice back on - hair of the dog, you understand. "I'll just play a while, to get my brain going, then I'll do some work".

False. Chances are (if you're anything like me), you'll play a while sure, but that while won't be anywhere near the hour you promised yourself; in fact it'll probably be closer to the five hour mark. Gaming is just that kind of mistress. Whether you eventually do get around to doing some work or not will differ on a case to case basis, but who can work after a meaty five hour gaming session? Chances are instead, you'll grab a quick bite and get right back to headshotting everyone else online before you start having withdrawals.
