Ever since 2005 gamers had been expecting a 'revolution' in gaming from Nintendo. Their latest console's working title signified everything that the company appeared to be shooting at in terms of shaking up the industry, especially as details emerged that the company were working on motion controllers the likes of which had never been seen before.

All of this goodwill was almost ruined in the buildup to E3 2006 when the company announced that their new hardware would be named the Wii. Jokes and internet backlash soon followed, however, the name certainly got people talking and anticipation for its unveiling was at a fever pitch.

Nobody knew quite what to expect from Nintendo's new box of tricks, which is why it was so shocking to finally see it in action and to see just how well it all worked.

Nintendo had managed to pull of the impossible and introduce a huge change in the way games could be played. The gamble paid off too, as the Wii went on to become one of the most popular consoles in the history of gaming and drew in an audience that would otherwise have never considered having a console in their homes.

For those who saw that unveiling there will be few shocks bigger than simply being able to see what Nintendo's new console was capable of for the first time.
